Arctic Rays is home to a small, chill, open-minded, passionate staff. The eight-year-old small business produces subsea imaging equipment, such as cameras, lighting, positioners and more, for use at depths down to 6,000 meters (~20,000 feet) on AUVs, ROVs, manned submersibles, marine installations/habitats, offshore platforms and other ocean applications worldwide. Our goal is to provide quality products with the lowest power consumption in the most compact package possible. We are a small business, so the sense of "team" is important here.

Job Description
This early-career position will play a pivotal role in the development and buildout of products for subsea use. Working in the lab at our Satellite Beach location and reporting to our director of engineering, this role's typical duties include:
- Responsible for mechanical design engineering in the areas of lighting, imaging, underwater vehicles, actuators, robotics and oceanographic instrumentation (60%), including:
- Performing mechanical modeling and analysis using 3D CAD tools.
- Preparing production drawings.
- Identifying machining partners and shepherd designs through fabrication.
- Testing and debugging prototypes in both laboratory and open-water settings.
- Preparing production instructions, user manuals, and other documentation.
- Assisting with product assembly, testing, repair, and production as needed. (30%)
- Field support including possible travel and offshore time. (10%)
This job involves standing, sitting and using a computer keyboard, walking and bending. The work is performed in an office environment 50% of the time, in a laboratory 40% of the time and in an external (field, at-sea) environment 10% of the time. This position may require to personal protective equipment to be worn as part of the job duties.
Essential skills/experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant engineering discipline (ocean or mechanical preferred) plus two years of related experience, or Master’s Degree in engineering plus one year of related experience
- Proficiency with mechanical design and use of 3D CAD tools, including Autdesk Inventor or SolidWorks.
- Proficiency with use of basic hand tools and light machining tools.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, managers and clients.
- Must have a valid Florida Driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Job Description
This role involves building subsea systems and products, including cameras, lights, actuators, landers, and other components for manned and unmanned underwater vehicles. Working in the lab at our Satellite Beach location and reporting to our director of engineering, this role's typical duties include:
- Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assembly and testing.
- Programming and setup of automated pick-and-place machine and reflow oven
- Electrical system wiring, testing and troubleshooting
- Mechanical assembly and testing
- Light machining and mechanical fabrication
- Inventory and procurement of electronic and mechanical components
- Preparation of assembly instructions, wiring diagrams, and other documentation.
- General assistance with product build, test, and delivery
- Open-water field assistance as needed
Essential skills/experience
- Technician’s certificate plus two years of experience, or four years of related technical experience
- Proficiency with soldering, wiring, assembly, hand tools, light machining
- Meticulous attention to detail (we don't cut corners)
- A self-starter who can work independently and takes initiative
- Proficiency with use of general PC software including MS Word, Excel, Acrobat, etc.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, managers and clients
- Must have a valid Florida Driver’s license and acceptable driving record
